Press Roles

We’ve designed all the roles at First Contact: 2035 to ensure every player will have an awesome day. Regardless of what role you play, whether it’s the leader of a country, scientist attempting to understand the alien’s biology or a member of press reporting on the day’s chaos, we expect you’ll have a fantastic time.

You can find an outline of the press roles will be made up of below.

Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief will manage the team of six players and work out which stories are the best ones to break during each team time’s news broadcast, every 45 minutes.

Managing the press team will be a full-on role, gathering news stories, shifting what will be presented to the game and generally chasing down leads.

What type of player will enjoy this role?
Do you enjoy being rushed off your feet and can walk up to anyone and ask them the pressing questions of the day? You’ll get this and more by playing the Editor-in-Chief.

Most likely this role, but possibly others in the team too, will need to be confident enough to present a news broadcast to all 200 players once per turn. That’s every 45 minutes.

Are you up to the challenge?

Journalist

As one of six journalists, breaking news from across the world is just another day in your life at First Contact. You’ll roam the world, asking the questions your audience want to know the answers to. You’ll speak to Heads of State, government ministers, CEOs and important scientists to uncover the truth and set the record straight.

Once a turn, the news organisation you work for will present a news broadcast to the entire game. At least one member of the press team, and hopefully more, will be up for speaking to 200 players and letting them know what has been happening across the game for the last 45 minutes.

What type of player will enjoy this role?
Are you confident enough to ask the difficult questions and organised enough to make sure you take notes and follow up on leads? Being a member of the press will be a very busy experience, but so rewarding when you break the story of a lifetime.
